March 28 … because it is written, "Be holy, for I am holy." — 1 Peter 1:16

Holiness in an Unholy World

There is no doubt that this world is becoming increasingly unholy. I told a group of young people recently that I was born in a different country than the one we now live in. Of course, geographically it was part of America, but it was a different world then, as some of you who are older can clearly attest. Our nation is truly, as one writer has said, going down the gutter into an ocean of slime. One time a young lady approached me and... More
March 27 Then Pilate said to Him, "Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?" But He never answered him a word, so that the governor was greatly amazed. — Matthew 27:13-14

Silence of the Lamb of God

Jesus was silent, we are told. He "opened not His mouth" before His accusers. Scripture states, "… yet he opened not his mouth; he was brought as a lamb to the slaughter" (Isaiah 53:7). Why was Christ silent before His accusers? He easily could have defended Himself. They could not prove anything against Him. He, indeed, confessed that He was the Son of God when questioned—and this is what brought about His crucifixion. There... More
March 26 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. — 1 John 1:7

The Loneliness of Jesus

Millions are lonely today. Yet Jesus experienced a gut-wrenching type of loneliness. Christ Jesus was alone for a time, so that we don't ever have to be. For the first time in eternity, when Jesus suffered on the Cross, the fellowship He had with His Father was broken. Thus He did not know the comfort of His Father. For Him the heavens were turned to brass and there was none to help. Abandoned by man, abandoned by His nation, abandoned by... More
March 25 Beware lest anyone captivate you through philosophy and vain deceit, in the tradition of men and the elementary principles of the world, and not after Christ. — Colossians 2:8

Logic Incarnate

Jesus is the Eternal Word of God: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1). Logos is the Greek word translated "Word." The Logos, the wisdom of God, or it can aptly be translated "logic" from logos —the logic of God. In the beginning, there was Logic and the Logic was with God and Logic was God and Logic became flesh. Many people think that Christianity is not... More
March 24 … weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. — Psalm 30:5

Joy in the Morning

Sorrow, sadness, and weeping are all part of this life. None of us are untouched by the troubles of the world. But these are temporary—whereas joy, for the Christian, is everlasting.  One time at a speaking engagement in Indianapolis, a man came up to me and said, "I was down in Ft. Lauderdale on vacation, and I met a lady in your church who shared with me those good tidings of great joy." She had told him of the Gospel and he... More
March 23 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. — Matthew 5:3

The Humble Christ

To be poor in spirit is to recognize that you are spiritually needy. It is to see that in ourselves we are poor and in need of a savior. Christ came—not with pomp and circumstance, not with royal splendor, not with power, not with armies, but into a family with a great lineage: however, one that had fallen into poverty. He grew up in the home of a carpenter. He grew up in a city that was a byword: "Can anything good come out of... More
March 22 They feared greatly and said to one another, “What kind of Man is He, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?” — Mark 4:41

Jesus Calms the Storms

We see something of the Deity of Christ and His uniqueness in the fact that He never bothered to trouble Himself to explain His frequently ambiguous conduct. For example, Jesus was asleep in the back of a boat in the midst of a great storm. Waves were breaking over the sides of the boat and the disciples were paralyzed with fear. They cried, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?" (Mark 4:38). "Well, I'm sorry fellows. If you had... More
