On this Independence Day weekend, we celebrate the founding of the freest nation on earth—the United States of America. The Declaration of Independence did something startling. It rooted our rights and freedoms not in the pleasure of the government, but in our creation by God. This was not abstract Enlightenment philosophy. This came from the many Bible-believing pastors who surrounded the independence movement.
