George Washington: Christian or Deist?

Scripture: 1 John 1:3-10

Faith is a word that needs an object. It is important to have faith but we must have faith IN something. To have some undefined sense of belief in a higher power is not really true faith. This is well illustrated by the difference between Christianity and deism. Christians put their faith in the Person and work of Jesus Christ. Deists, on the other hand, see clear evidence of design in creation and assume there must be a Creator.

But they envision a Creator who set His creation in motion at the beginning of time and has nothing to do with it now. That worldview offers you nothing to trust in. This deistic view has been attributed to some of America’s founders, including George Washington. Dr. D. James Kennedy explores the evidence in his message: “George Washington: Christian or Deist?”
