The idea that there is an “agenda” among homosexual and lesbian activists is deemed “offensive.” Instead of using the terms “homosexual agenda” or “gay agenda,” the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) would much prefer to have people use the phrases “lesbian and gay civil rights movement” or “lesbian and gay movement.”
The widely-read lesbian blogger Pam Spaulding writes, “The homosexual agenda is an elusive document. We’ve been looking around for a copy for quite some time…. The various anti-gay forces are certain that we all have a copy and are coordinating a[n] attack to achieve world domination.”
Jerry Newcombe, co-host of the television program Truth that Transforms, says that not only is there a real “agenda,” he compares it to the iceberg that took down the Titanic 100 years ago. “The radical homosexual agenda is advancing, dulling our sense of righteousness and undermining the American family.” Newcombe calls the agenda a “moral iceberg” and claims that it is “ripping a hole in the structure of America, and we’re taking on water.”
Several of his guests on this week’s program agree with him. Mat Staver, president of the Christian legal defense organization, Liberty Counsel, says, “The homosexual agenda is the moral iceberg that we need to steer clear of.” But Michael Brown, author and host of the talk radio program, The Line of Fire, says “We’ve already hit the iceberg and the ship is already going down.” After doing the research for his recently published 700 page book, A Queer Thing Happened to America, Brown is in a good position to comment on whether in fact there is, as purported, a “homosexual agenda.”
According to Brown, one of the things that helped launch the so-called gay liberation movement in the 1970s was the book Refugees from Amerika: Gay Manifesto. It included “An Outline of Imperatives for Gay Liberation,” which challenged homosexuals to engage in political activity and build their own community institutions. In 1987, when homosexuals and lesbians marched on Washington, D.C. for the second time, they published a list of demands, which included legal recognition of homosexual relationships, the repeal of all sodomy laws, as well as a presidential order banning discrimination against homosexuals in the federal government.
In 1990, two Harvard trained homosexual activists published After the Ball: How America Will Conquer Its Fear and Hatred of Gays in the 1990s, which gave a “four-point agenda for the gay movement.” This “agenda” had been drawn up in 1988 by a group of 175 homosexual activists who met in Warrenton, Virginia.
More recently, in 2005, twenty-two national homosexual activist organizations released a joint statement of purpose listing eight major goals, including “marriage equality” and “exposing the radical right’s anti-LGBT agenda and fighting their attempts to enshrine anti-gay bigotry in state and federal constitutions.”
Among these 22 national activist organizations are a number with budgets in the millions of dollars. All are now united in their efforts to achieve their not-so-hidden homosexual agenda.
Michael Brown summarizes the goals of the agenda this way:
--Whereas homosexuality was once considered a pathological disorder, from here on those who do not affirm homosexuality will be deemed homophobic, perhaps themselves suffering from a pathological disorder..
--Whereas gay sexual behavior was once considered morally wrong, from here on public condemnation—or even public criticism—of that behavior will be considered morally wrong.
--Whereas identifying as transgender was once considered abnormal by society, causing one to be marginalized, from here on those who do not accept transgenderism will be considered abnormal and will be marginalized
Certainly all of these goals should cause grave concern for Christians who believe that God’s standard for morality has not changed and that if homosexuality is embraced by America we will incur God’s disfavor and ultimately His wrath.
With Michael Brown’s permission, Truth in Action Ministries has produced, A Stealth Agenda, a condensed adaptation of Michael Brown’s 700 page book. In it Brown points out that even the language we use is changing as more and more Americans are coming under the influence of homosexual activism and forsaking belief in a biblically-based view that homosexual behavior is immoral. For example, “embracing diversity” now must include “all kinds of sexual orientation, (homo)sexual expression, and gender identification but rejects every kind of religious or moral conviction that does not embrace these orientations, expressions and identifications.” “Tolerance” now refers to “the complete acceptance of GLBT lifestyles and ideology…while at the same time refusing to tolerate any view that is contrary.”
Brown observes that major changes have taken place in America over the last four decades in terms of the public’s perception of homosexuality and same-sex relationships, the embrace of homosexuality by the educational system, the media’s portrayal of homosexuals, and both legislative and corporate support for “what was once considered unacceptable behavior.”
There is nothing “hidden” in the agenda homosexual activists are pursuing across America. But it is certainly a “stealth” agenda. For it is being carried forward by hiding pertinent facts and putting a glossy cover over what is not only morally repugnant behavior, but behavior that has brought sickness, heartache, and even death to millions. Covering up the facts concerning the health risks of engaging in homosexual sexual behavior and trying to put their agenda under the rubric of “civil rights,” “equal rights” or even “human rights” is the only way that homosexual activists can advance their goals.
The ultimate judge, however, of their efforts is not the American people—it is the One to whom we all will one day give an account, the One who sits on the great white throne described in Revelation 20. Before Him we will all come, “small and great,” to be judged, “each one according to his works.”
When the Titanic went down, “Those on the ship prepared to meet their God as the icy waters swept over them, and the mass of the ship pulled them down into the depths. They were “Lost at Sea”… Fifteen hundred people had met an untimely and totally unexpected end to their lives,” said Dr. D. James Kennedy in his sermon Saved or Lost?
None of us know when we may meet an equally untimely and totally unexpected end to our lives. There is only one way to be completely prepared for that event, and that is to reach out to Jesus Christ. He said of Himself, “the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). And He has promised, “the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out” (John 6:37).
